Marine Band of Allentown Reenacts Histoire
On a beautiful October Saturday afternoon, members of the Marine Band of Allentown traveled to Philadelphia for a concert presentation. While this may seem quite usual, the event was trés extraordinaire. Members and guests of the Napoleonic Historical Society held their 2008 annual conference at the grand Union League replete with French cuisine, speakers, authors and historians of the Napoleonic Age…and an authentic historical presentation of Napoleanic military music. La Garde Républicaine provided the Marine Band with manuscript scores of selections used for coronations, parades and other military functions including “Marche du Sacre,” “Le Champ D’Honneur,” “Marche du Drapeau des Guides” and of course, “La Marseillaise.” Vive!
