60th Annual Festival of Bands Concert - 2/26/12
The 60th annual Festival of Bands will be held on February 26 commencing at 2:45 p.m. at Louis E. Dieruff High School. The concert features a "massed band" comprised of the four Allentown-based concert bands (Allentown Band, Marine Band of Allentown, Municipal Band of Allentown, Pioneer Band of Allentown). This year's concert is a special tribute commemorating Allentown's 250th anniversary, Lehigh County's 200th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of the concert organizer, Allentown Music Festivals, Inc.
The event is free and open to the public; a free will offering will be taken. The concert begins with the Freedom Fife and Drum Corps comprised of students from the Freedom High School Patriot Band performing on authentic wooden fifes and rope tension drums. Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski serves as emcee and the concert is part of Allentown's 250th Anniversary celebration.
